On Point With: Christine Dior

After making her mark in Jersey and Philly, NYC new arrival Christine Dior joins forces with a pair of other rising stars for a hot Manhattan weekly!

Thotyssey: Hello, Christine, thanks for talking with us!

Christine Dior: Hi there! I’m thrilled to be speaking to you today!

So you seem to be very much a Tri-State queen… where are you now?

I am currently located in New York City… finally, lol! I actually moved here from New Jersey about four months ago, where I attended Rider University and graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater.

Congrats! Are you a Jersey native?

Not at all! I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I grew up there with my parents and my four older siblings.

Did you discover, or try, drag while in college?

Yes I did! I performed in a drag competition at my school in my freshman year. However, I never really thought of truly pursuing drag until the summer before my senior year, when I was exposed to the Philadelphia and New Jersey drag scene and fell completely in love. I have never looked back.

I see you’re close with Vicky Vibrato… is she your drag mom?

No, lol, she’s always been my sister! My drag mom is Kiki Ball-Change.

Ah I didn’t know that! She’s a great NYC queen!

Kiki’s the best!

Speaking of Philly and Jersey based queens… we’ve heard the very sad, recent news about Valencia Prime, a queen who performed frequently in those areas who suddenly passed away during a performance. Did you know her?

Yes, I had the blessing of knowing Valencia Prime. She was one of the first people that I met when I started in Philly. She was one of most loving, supportive, and fierce people I have ever met. I love and miss her so much. Rest In Power, Valencia.

How might you describe Christine as a queen today, for the uninitiated?

Christine is a fierce, fun-loving pop princess who is always down for a good time. My first love will always be performing… I am a technically trained dancer, so you can definitely expect high energy performances at my shows!

Social media is also a huge passion of mine. I love being able to connect with so many different people, and share content that I’m really excited about. I just love looking absolutely stunning, and always with a good hair flip!

And what’s been your experience like performing in New York?

I’ve only been performing in NYC since this past March when I competed in “Mother” at HUSH hosted by Maddelynn Hatter, who I have remained friends with since moving to the city. I went on to working more at HUSH and competing in “Star Search” at Barracuda. Since moving to the city, I’ve also had the opportunity to perform at various venue including Hardware, Pieces and 3 Dollar Bill.

My favorite show I’ve done since living in NYC would definitely be when I got to open up for Chappell Roan’s sold out concert at The Bowery Ballroom! I’ve only been in the city such a short time, and I’m incredibly grateful for each and every opportunity. It’s been a whirlwind, and I’m so excited to continue to grow and keep spreading my artistry!

Tell us about “Qruel Intentions,” your new Friday night situation at The Q with co-hostesses Brie Bordeaux and Wesley! How did the show come about, and what’s it like?

I was first approached about the show while I was working at HUSH this summer with Xavier Blanco; he gave me my first job in the city as a shot boy. When he got promoted to the Head of Talent for The Q and HUSH, he approached me with the idea of a show featuring Brie and I. We have recently welcomed the amazing Wesley to the cast, and the show is moving in a direction that we are really excited about. “Qruel Intentions” is a new theatrical production show every Friday at The Q at 10pm. It is a sexy nighttime experience filled fierce dance numbers, and a good kiki with three Atomic Blondes!

Anything else to add?

I had so much fun speaking with you today! I want to thank everyone who has and continues to support me and my drag. This is only the beginning for Miss Dior; I’m having the best time chasing my dreams, and I cannot wait for the future of Christine. Come out and see me every Friday at The Q for “Qruel Intentions!” Having a weekly show in the city has been a huge goal of mine, and I am so grateful for Xavier and everyone at The Q for helping me achieve this.

I’m also a resident cast member at Porta Jersey City for “Sunday Slayday Drag Brunch” every first and third Sunday of the month at 3pm! And odds are if you’re out somewhere in Hell’s Kitchen, you might see me. Thank you!

And then here’s your last question: what’s your favorite number to do right now?

I’ve been on a huge Kesha kick lately, lol! She makes me feel fierce AF.

Thanks, Christine!
