On Point With: Angeria Paris VanMicheals

On Season 14 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” finalist Angeria won our hearts with her warm southern charm and wacky humor, and gagged us with her high pageant runway fashions and animated takes on the challenges and lip syncs. And now that she’s doing the post-show, big time gig circuit, she’s one queen that we’d really love to see live. New Yorkers — if you missed her recent visit, you’ll get another chance on Pride Weekend!

Thotyssey: Hello Angeria, thanks for chatting with us today! So where in the world are you today, and what was your last performance like?

Angeria Paris VanMicheals: Hello there, I am currently at home in Atlanta resting for a couple of days. My last performance was in Orlando, Florida for One Magical Weekend. It was my first time performing at a circuit party, and it was amazing!

Belated congratulations on your glorious performance in Season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race! You were a fan favorite from the beginning and never failed to deliver the charm and the talent!

Thank you so much!

Was that whole experience of filming the show and then seeing yourself on the show anything like what you thought it would be, or something completely different?

It was wilder than I could have ever imagined. I was so anxious every week watching it on TV… but very satisfied afterwards, lol!

Do you have a favorite moment from the show now?

My favorite moment will always be meeting Alicia Keys. She’s been one of my favorite artists since I was a kid.

Do any of your fans beg you to call them an “Ugaly Bitch,” lol?

OMG, all the time. I heard it so much at DragCon this year, lol!

You are known for serving both bawdy comedy and campy drama in your lip syncs… do you have a favorite number to do right now?

“Check My Track Record,” maybe? Haha, my favorite number to perform is actually “And I’m Telling You” by Jennifer Hudson.

Will we ever see you and Tammie Brown co-host a show together? Maybe you can do it as each other!

I would really love that. We have chatted since the show, and she loved my impersonation of her.

Is it hard navigating the very intense Drag Race online fanbase… both the true love and the vocal minority of haters / weirdos?

It is very difficult at first, but overtime you learn how to ignore the hate and only focus on the love.

You performed here in New York back in March, for Dahlia Sin’s “Hard Serve” party at The Q! How did you enjoy that experience?

I loved performing at Hard Serve; the energy in the room was amazing. My Drag Race sisters Jan and Jackie Cox even came out to support me. Dahlia is also an amazing host.

You will be back in the City for Pride Saturday, performing in Voss Events‘ revue at HK Hall called The Fantastic Six! That’s an appropriate name; it stars yourself alongside Bosco, Daya Betty, Jorgeous, Lady Camden and season winner Willow Pill, along with hostess Miss Vanjie! Have the six of you had the chance to perform together since the show… and how do you think this night is gonna go?

This will be our first time performing together since the show, and I think this will be a fun night full of shade and shenanigans.

What else is coming up for you that the children should be on the look for: tours, tracks, merch, TV spots, etc?

My song “Call Me Angie” is streaming on all digital platforms and the music video is also available. I have also starred in TV roles that are set to debut this year, as well as preparing for the Werq The World North America Tour beginning in July.

Finally: have your people contacted Ariana’s people to officiate your wedding to Lady Camden!? JK! No, but really…?

We haven’t spoke about a wedding, but I have been in contact with Ariana. She loves me and Lady Camden, and the feeling is mutual.

Happy Pride, Angie!
