Looking for a weird, campy, old-timey horror movie to get cozy with this season? Green goddess and NYC based social media sensation Poxxa Ponnyou has more than a few recommendations for you, with lots of trivia to boot. Now the question remans: when will Poxxa be upon us in the realm of nightlife?
Thotyssey: Hello Poxxa, Happy Spooky Season! Are you big on decorating for Halloween at home?
Poxxa Ponnyou: I’m always decorated for Halloween! I’ve even got a little gargoyle called Gershwin.
Aw! Do you have room in your Halloween Heart for both the Actually Terrifying and the Spoopy Camp, or do you prefer one over the other?
I very much prefer fun, silly thrills over genuine heart-attack-inducing terror. Although…
If it’s thrilling and exciting enough, I’m happy with even the scariest of stuff. But it needs to be the kind of exciting scary, where I’m yelling with excitement at the TV with a big smile on my face and going AAAH!!!

You are, of course, a connoisseur of vintage horror! As we speak, I’m watching something called The Incredible Melting Man from 1977… it’s really cheap and poorly acted and everyone in it is so damn stupid… but it’s fun and the practical effects are pretty good!
I’ve never heard of that one before! What makes the incredible man melt? Actually don’t tell me, I wanna see the movie for myself. That’s what I love about these–there’s always more to discover, even when you think you’re an expert on the genre.
Is there a horror movie from the past you recently discovered that sticks out as a new favorite of yours?
I recently threw on Devil Girl From Mars when I was cleaning my kitchen, and I got absolutely hooked! It’s such a stupid script. The rocket ship cockpit seats are just spinny office chairs with wheels, but they have seatbelts on them… that doesn’t secure them, all that does is strap a human to a rolling office chair. I have a lot more to say about this one, but I’m gonna save it for a video because everyone needs to know about it.
For those unfamiliar with your social media platform, can you explain the Poxxa experience and what inspired you to create it?
So I recommend old camp schlocky Halloween movies to get people in the spirit. I usually stick to the early-mid 20th century with my recommendations–because while Chucky and Nightmare Before Christmas are great, everyone knows them. I chose to focus on classic drive-in creature feature spooky movies because they’re starting to be forgotten.
It bums me out when younger generations don’t know who Vincent Price or Lon Chaney are–not because of any “you darn kids” reason, but because they’re missing out. But saying “Whaaat?! You’ve never seen Dr. Phibes!!?? Come ON!” is a great way to ensure they never watch that movie. That’s why I made these videos! I share my excitement about them, and it seems like people are checking the movies out!
Can you share a bit of your backstory with us?
My past is of very little interest to anyone reading, I’m sure. I grew up in a house by a bog, and I’ve loved the old classic horror films like Dracula or The Wolfman ever since I was a hatchling. Me and my best friend Atrocity Winslow would practice kissing on a Mr. Potato Head. I’d close my eyes and pretend that Mr Potato Head was Christopher Lee or Kate Mulgrew, and Atrocity kissed that thing with her eyes wide open because she had a thing for Mr Potato Head anyway.
I’ve traveled, performed, and declared war on Disney ever since they kicked me out of the Hall of Presidents for throwing a lit match at JFK, but all of that is in the past. New York City is my home and I love it to bits.
A male presenting human that you share a body with named Jules Starn has a standup / improv career and has a popular social media presence of his own, including a quirky series where he has conversations with a squirrel in his apartment! What can you tell us about him?
He came from a filmmaking, comedy writing, and SFX background, did a season at UCB where some of his work can be found on the Characters Welcome YouTube channel, and is currently freelancing with his production company, Grimcut Productions. And he snores.
Do you think Poxxa might ever make a live appearance, or do a live horror movie screening in the near future?
Oooh, watch this space… I’m hoping to announce something soon!
Very exciting! Is there anything else you want to mention?
Oh! If anyone finds a wallet with Snoopy on it near the boardwalk bathrooms at Coney Island, contact my business email (I’m not offering a reward; the feeling of doing a good deed should be enough).
Agreed, lol! Okay lastly… what’s the best and worst Halloween candy?
Best… it’s between Butterfinger and Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups. As for worst? Runts.
Agreed! Have a Spectacular Shocktober, Poxxa!
