On Point With: Bones

The gothic beauty and Lana Del Rey enthusiast that is Bones just won “Drag Race UK” Season 7, and this weekend she’s headed to our fair shores to spread her glamorous shadows across our drag stages!

Thotyssey: Bones, hello! First off, congrats on your Drag Race UK Season 7 win! Are you displaying your crown and scepter anywhere specific?

Bones: To be honest, when I got it, it had a stone missing, so … it’s just on top of my record player. But I play Lana on that every day!

If you did have ruling power over the UK drag scene, what decrees might you lay down?

Hot combs, straighteners and wax sticks.

What is British drag fame like? I imagine everyone recognizes you in and out of drag, especially now. Do many UK people want to come up and speak to you and take selfies, or do they keep a polite distance?

I’ve noticed it mostly on the Underground, especially when going around central. But it’s been quite nice! I love chatting to people! Especially when I know I’m getting off at the next stop.

Besides winning of course, what will be your most cherished memory of filming Drag Race… and what will forever remain in your Cringe File?

I’ll always remember Catrin being asleep at any given moment. And for the Cringe File… I feel like Liam Gallagher is the only Cringe File.

Your drag house relatives Krystal Versace (the series’ first ever winner) and DeDeLicious are also Drag Race UK reality, of course. Has there been a big house victory party for you yet?

We’ve actually not been able to all get together yet. But with a family of 15+, it’s hard to get us all in the same room at the same time. But we’ve definitely all still managed to celebrate a lot!

You’re known for a darker, glamor-witch aesthetic. Do you think you could ever follow Jade Jolie’s footsteps and compete on Dragula, or is it too ghoulish over there?

I’m definitely a glamour witch over a ghoul …but I don’t think it’s something I’d ever rule out.

On a somber note, this month marks a year since the passing of UK drag icon The Vivianne. Do you have any memories of seeing her perform, or working with her, in London or elsewhere?

I only got the pleasure of meeting The Vivienne a few times — which even still is crazy to me, as she was and will forever be Thee Queen of the UK. But she was always a huge supporter through the DMs, and we will always miss her presence.

You’re just getting into major touring now. Have you had any experiences regarding cities, crowds and venues across the world that really surprised you yet, or just any remarkable touring stories in general?

I feel like I always have to give Glasgow a shout out every time I’m asked this question , I have such a family of fans in Glasgow who always really turn out whenever I make it there.

Have you ever been to New York before?

Yeah, I’ve been a few times now and I have actually got the opportunity to perform at 3 Dollar Bill before! but I’m really excited to come back as “Drag Race royalty.” I was just a mere club rat on my last visit.

You’ll be doing a bunch of stuff here when you return this week! On Friday, you’ll be in back at 3 Dollar Bill for a Drag Race viewing party alongside Dawn, Onya Nurve and Megami… what a great group! Have you been able to watch any of the current American season yet, and if so what are your thoughts on the cast?

I think the cast is fierce as fuck. There’s so many stand outs… and actually not too many boogers for once.

Later that night, the four of you are sticking around to join Jazmine for a Charli XCX themed afterparty there! Your Lana love is well-documented, but are you a Charli fan as well?

Yeah, of course, bitch! I’m British!

Then Saturday, you and Jazmine will be at 3DB once more — this time with Aja and Aquaria for “It Girls!” What an epic lineup! OMG, are you all gonna do a group number?

I’m up for suggestions! But fuck, that would be gaggy.

And Sunday you and Jazmine will join Olivia Lux, Trouble and the good folks of FlipPhone Events for drag brunch at Stella 34! Is drag brunch as big in London as it is in NYC?

It definitely had its peak around Lockdown! and since then … only the good ones had survived. Brunch is usually not my thing because I’m a late night girl, but I’m happy to wake up for a brunch at Stella 34!

And this just in: next Thursday of next week, you’ll join Essa Noche and Venus Mystique for their weekly “BBL!”

What else is coming up for you that folks should know about, or is there anything else at all you want to mention?

Our Season 7 tour is just around the corner, and I’ve got some really fierce gigs lined up over the summer. Other than that, always keep an eye on heavenly bodies! And you know … wherever there’s a cunt fee, there’s me.

Finally, what’s your best advice — or words of warning! — for a gal who winds up on a season of Drag Race as far as how to win, how to get by, or how to deal with what comes after?

Just be yourself. Don’t prepare! In the best way, let each week hit you how it hits you. People just enjoy seeing you take it on week by week! I’m the prime example of “you don’t have to impress everyone to have a crown on your head!”

Thanks Bones, and once again, belated congrats!
