Thotyssey: Hi Lexi! How is the holiday season treating you so far?

Lexi Pro: First of all, hello! Thank you so much for asking me to do this interview! Second of all, when I’m not being a woman by night, I am working in the cosmetic retail world… and it’s holiday time. So I’ll let you solve that puzzle on how it’s treating me (haha)!

Yikes! I hope you get an employee discount, at least.

What’s the point of the job if not!?

Truth! So how might you describe Lexi these days, as far as looks and numbers go?

I’ve always said that Lexi is the crossroad between sexy and stupid. I love feeling put together and gorgeous while acting a complete fool. The juxtaposition (you like that word? That’s a big one for Lex) of sexy and stupid, much like the femininity and masculinity I play on in drag, really tickles my brain. As far as numbers, the more stupid reality TV / Housewives quotes I can squish in, the better.

Are you a Jersey native, and were you always into art / performance etc. growing up?

I am, I am. Born and raised in Ocean County, saw the red flags and fled as soon as I turned 18. I was always into performing. I went to a performance arts high school and majored in it in college…which really worked out for me, lol. No, no I’m just playing — theater has really opened up so many doors for me. I even got to work on wigs and makeup teams on and off Broadway! Now I make wigs for myself, and anyone who wants to pay me. I have my own LLC – Studio LP, where I do hair and makeup as well as wigs for my fellow queens, kings and things!

Do you get mad when you see girls in bad hair, lol?

I don’t discriminate… I get mad when I see boys in bad hair, too.

Fair! What are the joys and challenges of being a Jersey queen?

Honestly, I’m really proud of the Jersey / Tri State drag scene. I was a fan of local drag before I started, as most of us are — and we’ve come a long way. There’s some really cool drag in Jersey. We really are a melting pot… not very cookie cutter. Lots of weird, fun, sexy, funny, polished, etc.

I do, however, think drag (in NJ and in general) is becoming a little oversaturated… which can make the shine of the art dim a bit. But in the same vain, I do think there are many producers, hosts and performers that are really showing up and showing out around the Tri State to bring back that special quality drag can lack currently.

This may sound long winded, but any time I can support and shout out my friends I will. My girls, gays and theys over at Paradise in Asbury Park, my crew over at QXTs in Newark, my best friend Diva Divine over in New Hope, the Monroe / Leigh dynasty down in South Jersey and Philly, Crimson Moon over in Delaware, Giardia and Pam over in Brooklyn, and my girls at Six26 in Jersey City! And many more, but just to name a few who are really keeping drag alive in this area. I would hope they would feel the same about me, because I want nothing more than for drag to continue to be so special. I love it so much.

You’re actually coming to Brooklyn this Friday for Giardia’s show “She Ate” at Branded Saloon! Have you been there before?

Yes and YES! My sister / brother Giardia is one of the funniest and most electric performers I have ever seen. She is so fun to work with. I can’t wait!

Then this coming Sunday, you’ll be at QXT’s for a show called “FOGO Cabaret!”

Oh hunny if you’ve never been to a FOGO Cabaret, you’re missing out on some of the best food and fun / fiery performances you’ve ever seen! It’s a ki!

I will also be down in Glassboro next week with Drag Queen Entertainment for their holiday show! Now THAT crew knows how to put on a drag show! Shout out to Astala and company. XOXO! See?! I’m telling you, we are sleeping on NJ drag, there are some amazing performers/producers over here. I can’t say enough nice things about the drag here. I know that’s not what the haters wanna hear, but it’s true!

On December 27th, you’ll be judging a competition in Asbury Park called “Bratz & Brewz: Out of the Box” at Wild Air Beerworks.

OMG, by doing this interview I’ve realized maybe I do too much… and also have a terrible memory. I mean, I am a dainty 32 years of age, lol. That is my own show that I totally forgot to plug.

I have a show every three months at Wild Air Beerworks in Asbury Park, NJ called Bratz & Brewz. We now do a competition series every other show, so that we can showcase some new talent… and why not make the girls / gays / theys fight it out? Yes, our Winter Ball competition is happening on December 27th. We will also be having raffles and queer owned vendors set up to make a whole night of it! My partner Joey and I built this together, and we are so excited to see it continue.

What else is coming up for you?

Lots of fun stuff coming up in the new year, but you’ll have to follow me to find out! I am really pushing my new hair studio, Studio LP — so if you need a wig, you know to come to this Jersey Girl!

The last question is: what’s your favorite item in your drag bag, cosmetic or otherwise?

Hmm… my two items I cannot go without are my Lancôme perfume, because I am not, what? Smelly. But I am, what? Old. And my HUDA beauty powder — the only thing keeping my face held on for dear life! XOXO

Happy holidays, Lexi!
