On Point With: Nikky Sky Blake

One of the true reigning queens of New Jersey drag pageantry (and Jersey drag in general), Nikky Sky Blake remains one of the busiest and most beloved performers in the scene.

Thotyssey: Hello Nikky, thanks for chatting! How is / was your summer?

Nikky Sky Blake: Pretty good so far!

You are one of Jersey’s busiest and best loved queens!

Aww, thank you love!

How long have you been there now?

I’ve been living in NJ for 23 years, but performing for 17 years.

Where are you from originally, and how did you discover drag?

I’m originally from Honduras, and I discovered drag at the Colosseum nightclub. One of my friends dared me to do drag on a Tuesday night’s Drag Attack hosted by Princess Janee. After that, I fell in love with it!

You’re part of Jersey’s amazing Sky pageant family of Jersey.

I’m actually the mother of the Sky family, and my drag mother is Ashley Blake.

Royalty! You al have such a rich pageant history. How many crowns have you won, and did you have a favorite pageant you competed in?

I have won 20 pageants. My favorite is the Miss Paradise pageant.

For a while you were hosting a popular Monday night show at Cascada before that venue closed. Now there are so few Monday parties in Jersey!

Yes, I did that for about six years and I sure do miss it! I also hosted a party for nine years in Newark call “Rainbow Tuesday.” I am also still Miss Feathers Nightclub.

There are many places to see you in September!

You can catch me at R Bar in Asbury park, NJ on September 10th.

Also I’m at Georgie’s Bar in Asbury park on September 15th, and the third Friday of every month hosting Latin Night.

And I’m at Paradise Nightclub hosting “Wepa Latin Thursdays” on September 22nd.

Excellent! Last question: what’s your best advice for a queen just starting out today?

My best advice to a newcomer is to be herself always, stay humble, and never forget to be kind to everyone.

Thanks, Nikky!
