On Point With: Allison Wonderland

Known as a Lady Gaga impersonator and a mainstay of New Jersey’s Drag Queen Entertainment, Allison Wonderland’s been making wonderous things happen in NYC lately as well.

Thotyssey: Hello Allison, thanks for chatting! August is almost over, how did the month threat you?

Allison Wonderland: This month was so great! I had some really fun gigs this month… and it ain’t over yet!

That’s the truth! You have a big show coming up, which we’ll get to. I understand you gigged last night, was that in Jersey?

Yes! Last night I was at “Drag Me To Landmark” in Glassboro. Super fun gig with the production company I primarily work for, Drag Queen Entertainment!

That’s Astala Vista’s company. She brings drag to the far corners of Jersey, and everyone everywhere lives for it! Do you live in jersey yourself, and is that your original home state?

Sure do — Jersey born and raised! Whether or not that’s a good thing is still to be determined, though.

So were performing and fashion always your Things while growing up?

Absolutely! I’ve been into fashion for as long as I can remember. Growing up I was an avid magazine reader — everything from tabloids to Vogue — so fashion has always played a big part in my life. As far as performance goes, my entire life has been a big stage show… but I only ever stepped on a stage for the first time in my high school talent show. I impersonated Lady Gaga, which turned out to be my full time job now. How full circle!

Were you able to go to her recent concert, by the way?

I did! Such an amazing show. And I’ll be at the Hershey one as well!

So how and when did you become Allison?

I picked the name ten long years ago, when I was 13. Drag has been something I knew I wanted to do for a long time, and when it came to picking a name I turned to my favorite book as inspiration.

Can you describe what Allison’s drag is like today to the uninitiated, as far as the types of looks and numbers you serve?

Allison is a duality. On one hand she is a Y2K bimbo pop princess, super bubbly and fun… and on the other hand is a Lady Gaga impersonation!

The layers! I see you also partook in a digital drag competition, Drag Showdown! What was that experience like?

It was a learning experience, for sure. I learned quite a lot, but it’s not something I’d ever do again.

You have been working with another queen who put out lots of digital content during lockdown, Obscura, for some recent live events in Brooklyn’s 3 Dollar Bill! How did that partnership come about?

Funny enough, Obscura and I actually met through the digital drag world about six years ago… and have been best friends ever since! She actually convinced the host of Drag Showdown to put me on the second season!

What sort of things are you two trying to achieve with your events production brand, Visions Reloaded?

Visions Reloaded is a love letter to some of our favorite artists, genres of music and possibly some other secret things coming up! We want to create a super fun, interactive environment for the community!

This Wednesday (August 24th) brings “Control Alt Delete” to the 3DB stage! What can you tell us about that show?

Control Alt Delete is a tribute to our favorite Alt-Pop divas! Artists such as Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, Kate Bush and MARINA, and so so many more. I’ll personally be giving Kim Petras and my absolute favorite alt pop diva, Slayyyter!

Anything else coming up for you that the children should be aware of?

Just a whole lot of gigs here in South Jersey! You can check out the Drag Queen Entertainment website for a list of dates!

Have great gigs! And finally… Secret Celebrity Drag Race! Yay, Nope, or Meh?

I haven’t even watched it yet. It seems so much better than the last season, though… so I’ll definitely be checking it out!

Enjoy the rest of your summer, Allison!
