Trust us: the DJ of the Moment is No Promises!
Thotyssey: Hi NP, thanks for chatting today! How is November treating you so far?
No Promises: Not too bad; though I feel like time is moving fast. Wasn’t Halloween yesterday?
OMG I hear you, lol. Now Christmas is right around the corner… are you fishing for new Mariah remixes, lol?
That and “Jingle Some Balls” mashups perhaps?
Sounds perfect! How might you describe your general DJ sound today, when you’re the boss of the booth?
My general sound is familiarity mixed in with a club beat! I try to give them something they know, with a twist.
Where’s your original hometown, and was music always a part of your life?
I’m originally from Hempstead, Long Island. Music wasn’t at the forefront of my upbringing, though… my dad used to listen to his Al Green and Bill Withers CD’s all the time. I became more into music during the beginning of YouTube era and watching Video Music Box on TV.
MTV basically died, and artists are putting out much fewer music videos than they used to. Do you think the genre is dead, or will it return?
I think artists are leaning more towards the era we are in now, which is to capture the audience’s attention within the first five seconds — which may be a skit, photo, or a video. I don’t think the era of pouring so much of your budget into music videos are coming back.

How did you get into DJing venues, and how did your DJ name come to you?
I started back as a partygoer and around 2018 or so. l was struggling with what the DJs were playing… and thought if they don’t want to play dancing music, I will! Playing in venues was very much “show up to venues you like and connect with the DJs who are already playing.” You support them, and they can help support you by having you open or recommend you.
I had maybe two other DJ names but, when I started playing more in the clubs, I started to get more song requests. Thus me saying “No Promises” all the time, and I made that my DJ name.
Ha! Have you had an all time favorite DJ gig?
My favorite one was a DIY rooftop party back in 2021, during the post-first year of Covid. Not kidding — it was like a thousand people on this rooftop. The energy was just pure and unmatched, because it was no expectations for it. #JungleBook
Sounds like a magical New York night! So this Saturday, you and DJ Evangeline will be spinning “RALLY” at The Rosemont! What’s that night gonna be like?
Let’s just say CUNT.

Then Sunday, you’re on the lineup at Pianos in the LES! Have you DJed there before?
1000+ plus times. Pianos is a solid local spot. There’s always something going on there.

What else is coming up for you?
I’d like to say I’m going to focus on making music but… No Promises.
Got it! Finally, what’s your best advice for a new DJ on the scene who wants to make it big?
Focus on building with the people around, compared to trying to jump and be a part of the big events happening. Building genuine connections will pay off long term.
Thanks, NP!
