The popular “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 11 finalist and host of spin-off “Canada’s Drag Race” (Season 5 premieres November 21st), Brooke Lynn Hytes is preparing a return to NYC for a very special holiday show… alongside some fierce collegues!
Thotyssey: Hi Brooke, thanks for finding time to chat with us today! OMG, Canada’s Drag Race, which you have been hosting since its premiere, will launch its fifth season on November 21–the same day as your New York Christmas show! Obviously as the host you can’t spoil lol, but what are your general thoughts on the cast this season?
Brooke Lynn Hytes: It’s such an amazing and diverse cast. I can’t say much, but you are in for a wild ride! Lots of Drama mama!
Do you feel that Canadian drag has really elevated since the show premiered, or has it always been this great and it’s just getting the platform it deserves now?
Both! I feel it’s always been great but I’ve definitely seen a push since the show premiered.
What’s been your favorite thing about Drag Race stardom so far?
Being able to make a decent living doing what I love.
As we are approaching the holiday season: what’s your ideal Christmas situation look like, as far as how you normally like to celebrate or spend time during the holiday?
I’ve been on tour the last few Christmases, so probably getting to spend it with my family. Real family or tour family!
This season, you will be touring for Murray & Peter’s 10th anniversary holiday revue “A Drag Queen Christmas” hosted by Nina West, alongside a fabulous cast of RuSisters! On November 21st we can see you at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn with Nina, Sapphira Cristal, Roxxxy Andrews and Crystal Methyd! What can folks expect from this tour?
hey can expect glamour, glitz and laughs! It is so much fun getting to tour with the queens because usually we are all by ourselves!
Do you have any favorite New York drag queens, by the way?
And finally: What’s your you favorite Christmas song?
I hate Christmas, music but probably “O Holy Night.” The Celine version, of course.
