Let’s help our fabulous, newly sashed Miss Trans New York Alicia Love win the national crown!
Thotyssey: Hello Alicia! Halloween is right around the corner… is she ready?
Alicia Love: Yes, I am so ready! I love Halloween.
Do you tend to go spooky or sexy for your looks this time of year?
I like to mix the two. I love spooky crazy looks, but I like sexy looks too.
Do you have a favorite horror movie monster or killer?
I love Freddy Krueger. A Nightmare on Elm Street is such a good movie.

So where are you from, and we’re you always a performer of some sort while growing up?
I’m from Washington DC originally. Since I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated with the stage and I’ve always loved performing.
What ultimately brought you to New York, and to drag?
I have family in NYC. I started drag six years ago; that feeling of being on stage was so fulfilling.
Did drag help you to explore your identity as a trans woman?
I started transitioning way before I started drag. For me, my identity as a trans woman is separated from my stage persona.

There are a number of well-known Loves in drag and pageantry!
I didn’t even know that! The only Love I know and talk to from time to time is Kylie Sonique Love, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars.
Love that Love! How did you get into pageantry, and what do you enjoy about that world?
I got into pageantry when I was living in Washington DC, and I happened to do this one pageant… and from there, I fell in love with it. I love the glam and fashions.
Congrats on winning Miss Trans New York 2023! What was that whole experience like?
Thank you! Any pageant is stressful–when you want everything to be right, you know. Nationals is November in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; I’m very excited.

We also must say congrats for winning the first week of this season’s “Get Schooled” competition at VERS, hosted by Yasmeen Kennedy! Isn’t VERS a gorge space?
Yes, I love performing at VERS; the venue is so nice. Yasmeen Kennedy is the best.
You’ll be back there November 1st for a special fundraiser benefiting your Miss Trans USA Nationals pageant package! Yasmeen will be performing for it, along with a number of other talented queens. What can we expect from you and this show?
You can expect fun, upbeat performances and a great atmosphere. It’s going to be a great time!

And anyone who can’t (or can) make it to the benefit show can contribute directly to your pageant fund on your GoFundMe! Anything else coming up for you that the children should know about?
The finale of “Get Schooled” is in December, where I’ll be competing for that crown.
Good luck… I’ll be there on the judge’s bench! Last question… what’s your favorite number to perform these days, be it in a bar or in a pageant?
Thank you! My favorite number to perform has to be from “Dreamgirls,’ or Sade.
Thanks Alicia, and good luck with everything!
