On Point With: Brooklyn Nite

This native New Yorker is serving sultry on stage, while stacking human hair beauty atop clients across the city… Brooklyn Nite is truly here to slay!

Thotyssey: Hello Brooklyn! Thanks for chatting today! Happy Pride Month… will this be a crazy time for you, or is everything under control, lol?

Brooklyn Nite: Happy Pride Month, Diva! I can thankfully and graciously say Pride month is keeping me busy… but hey, I can’t complain!

I believe that when you are not onstage, you’re a makeup artist, right?

So my work life is a little all over the place, lol. I have a nine to five in marketing, which is what I went to school for. I do makeup freelance from time to time, but I’ve gotten a lot more into hair; it’s one of the reasons I’m a little busier this month. The girls come to me to make and style their wigs.

Do you generally like to go big with your wigs, or do you prefer long and flowy?

While I love drag hair, I do live for a cunty human hair moment. Without sounding douchie, I’ve always worn human on stage–so it’s all I know. We live for “flat hair”… that’s always styled in this house! When I style the wigs for the girls in NYC, it’s 99% human. I’ve really fallen in love with custom color and styling, so I try to play into that!

Oh the humanity! So, can you tell us where you’re from originally… and were you always into performance and drag-like stuff growing up?

I am from Brooklyn–born and raised–which is where my name comes from. A person from Brooklyn is a Brooklynite (Brooklyn Nite). I actually found out about drag through Drag Race, but I didn’t think I would ever do it consistently. I really only started after the pandemic. I did random Instagram makeup posts, and only after all the craziness of Covid did I finally think, “if not now, then when?”

How would you describe the kind of numbers you like to do now?

In a perfect world, Brooklyn would do a slow, sexy and sultry number every single time. But trust and believe, if I need to do a few cooter slams to get dollar bills of a greater denomination then one… I am ready to do so!

Shes an entrepreneur! Random question, who has the song of the summer so far? Early contenders I think are Kylie and Dua!

Well, “Padam” has turned into a gay verb by now! But if you ask me, Kat Deluna’s “Whine Up” wins every summer, every single time!

You’re a monthly guest at Heidi Haux’s 4pm Saturday show at Pieces! Don’t tell anyone, but that’s secretly one of my faves to watch.

Aw, oh my gosh, you’re so sweet! Heidi is a freaking angel sent from above. She really took a chance on me, and I’ll be forever grateful to her. It’s literally one of my fav gigs at my favorite bar on the planet. I really consider Pieces my home, so being on that stage whenever I get the chance feels correct!

By the way… are you anyone’s drag mother yet, and do you have a drag mother yourself?

I’m not anyone’s drag daughter or mother. I feel like a lot of queens are very quick to adopt children; it’s not something I would take lightly. And plus, I’m still a baby queen myself… so I may not be looking for children. I am looking for a Daddy!

Also something not to take lightly… Britney Spears! Will you be a Stan for life, even if she never performs or records again?

Absolutely. Even if she never produces another record again, she will forever stay in my shuffle!

This Thursday, you will be part of the amazing cast of Nicky O and 3 Dollar Bill’sNight of 1000 Britneys!” What can you tell us about this epic show with its massive cast?

What I can tell you is its 35 queens who each have their own perspectives on drag, and it’s Britney Spears…so we gonna fucking give it!

What else is coming up for you?

We’ll, I’m definitely continuing to cause destruction at a gay bar near you. I’m always working on my next hair commissions, so come to me for all your human hair needs!

By the way, whose team are you on for Drag Race All-Stars 8?

I’ve been a Kandy Muse fan well before she was ever on the Race, so it only matters if she’s their l. The others are just place holders for second and third place, if you ask me!

Heard! And finally… what’s your favorite, and least favorite, thing about drag?

My favorite thing about drag is definitely the community, for sure. Some of my closets friends and sisters I’ve meet through drag, and I wouldn’t know what do to with my life if it weren’t for them! While I love being on stage, some of the moments I truly hold onto are the kikis with the girls backstage.

Least favorite part about drag would probably be–I don’t know? Recently after a show, I pulled a wig off so fiercely it gave me blisters that are just starting to heal. That sucked. But I pretty much love everything else!

Thanks, Brooklyn!
