GLAM nominee Chaz is the jewel of Astoria!
How long I’ve worked there: It’ll be a year in March. My, has it flown by!
What makes these bars great: Honestly, both bars have a great sense of community among the patrons, queens and bartenders. Everyone knows each other by name and you’re always guaranteed to see a great show, have great conversations, listen to a wide variety of music, and have a stiff drink!
Best drink I make: Whenever someone walks in and struggles with what they want to drink, I recommend a “Free Britney”- Malibu, Sprite, splash of pineapple. Not super complex but usually gets ‘em good. That, and I think we can all agree on that title. JUST FREE HER ALREADY.
I love it when customers: engage in great conversation with me! I love talking, so it’s nice when they confide in me.
I hate it when customers: I’m not a fan of anyone saying my pour was weak. I’ve never been known for a weak pour! That, and just general rudeness.
Craziest thing I’ve seen here: Have you ever seen Sherry Poppins do the PACER running test? It’s a sight.
Other places I’ve worked: This is the first LGBTQ+ bar I’ve worked at! Previously, I bartended at The Book of Mormon.
My hometown: Orange County, CA.
Stuff I do when I’m not bartending: I will never not admit to binging TV shows on my days off. But I do love bowling, playing pool, or getting on the ferry and getting lost in the city.
Single or Taken: Taken by my gorgeous boyfriend, Damian!
Who/what turns me on: Anyone who didn’t vote for Trump.
Favorite music: I have eclectic taste. Britney, obvs. I also love Fleetwood Mac, Ariana, Donna Summer, among other artists. I also really love film scores.
Favorite movie or TV show: Movies: Kill Bill & Devil Wears Prada. TV: Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Favorite drag queen: Marti Gould Cummings without question. She’s funny, personable, and she’s fighting the good fight.
My drag name would be: Years ago, in my college days, I always said I would be Queef Latina, but a queen in Miami snatched that name already. Oh well! Back to the drawing board…
Favorite gogo boy: Does my boyfriend count? He’s like Tina, he’s my private dancer!
Favorite DJ: DJ Gingy! Gingy spins the best bops and lights the queens up like they’re on Broadway!!
Other stuff you need to know about me: I’m a theatre kid and love to sing. I’ve drifted away from the theatre scene, but hope to get back to performing in some capacity. People have been telling me to get into stand-up, though it intimidates me!
