A true favorite in Brooklyn, Macri Park’s Bar Babe Meg becomes a roaster this week!
Bar that I work at: Macri Park
How long I’ve worked there: I’ve been working at Macri since TnT closed, so a little over a year.
What are my shifts: I’m behind the bar with Mikey on Mondays during Mondays on Mondays hosted by Ruby Roo and Ragamuffin, Tuesdays for “I’m Sorry I’ve Been Drinking” hosted by Misty Meaner and Mocha Lite and every Saturday. But you can truly catch me picking up shifts whenever I can.
What makes this bar great: The community in this bar is a family. From the bar staff to drag queens to the regulars. We look out for each other and always have a great time together.
Best drink I make: Well that depends, you ask me on a Saturday night and you’re getting a beer. But I enjoy making different shots – lately, an iced tea shot that’s made with Jameson, or a cute coffee shot.
I love it when customers: know what they want and are respectful of the shows when they happen.
I hate it when customers: ask for “a beer” or “a drink”. Know what you want or don’t order.
Craziest thing I’ve seen here: My first shift i ever worked at Macri by myself, a guy came in – obviously high. I told him he had to leave, and when he went outside was surrounded by 6 cops, pushing him against the wall and handcuffing him. Turns out, someone had called the cops because he had a gun, and was walking up and down the street asking people to shoot him. A very good moment in trusting my instincts and getting him out, but not a shift I’ll ever forget.
Other places I’ve worked: In currently the Client Relations Manager for Drag Queen Merch. I bartended at TnT and I worked on Broadway doing theatre management for two years.
My hometown: Binghamton, NY
Stuff I do when I’m not bartending: time outside the bar is usually spent working on projects for DQM, chilling on the couch or trying to go out with friends.
Single or Taken: single
Who/what turns me on: a nice smile, good-smelling, and someone who is actually interesting.
Favorite music: well, the band I’ve seen most is Panic at the Disco, and who i listen to most now is definitely Pink. So I feel like my music tastes sounds like I’ve never left high school.
Favorite movie or TV show: Criminal Minds and Dexter are two of my favorite shows.
Favorite drag queen: Okay, seriously one of the hardest questions in nightlife. Ruby Roo is honestly my number one. She brought me into the Brooklyn family, and can control a room like no other. i also need to give a shout out to my moms Misty Meaner and Mocha Lite, who have always – and continue to – look after me and give the best shows.
My drag name would be: according to Lady Havokk, it would be Megs Benedict
Favorite gogo boy: Levi Karter
Other stuff you need to know about me: this Thursday, I am part of Lady Havokk’s birthday roast. Trust me when I say, you don’t want to miss the lineup reading the most annoying Queen in BK
