It’s one of Brooklyn’s favorite pourpersons and karaoke hosts, Metro Bar’s fabulous Katie!
Bar that I work at: Metropolitan
How long I’ve worked there: Five years
What are my shifts: Sunday nights and random covers. Tuesday nights I host karaoke.
What makes this bar great: good lighting! And diverse, friendly, and weird regulars.
Best drink I make: PBR
I love it when customers: are on good first dates. i eavesdrop and it’s always so cute
I hate it when customers: are straight and weird about it, or pretend they don’t know they have to tip because they’re European.
Craziest thing I’ve seen here: I once found a huge thing of Fage greek yogurt sitting on top of a bar toilet. Also, one time Lea Delaria yelled at me because I didn’t know who she was.
Other places I’ve worked: Oh god, almost ever lez bar in the city before they all closed; a bunch of miserable straight bars in, like, Murray Hill and the financial district.
My hometown: NYC
Stuff I do when I’m not bartending: writing, crying, eating, boxing, running, hanging with my 100 yr-old bulldog Louis.
Single or Taken: Single, thanks.
Who/what turns me on: Charlene, drugs, trying new shit.
Favorite music: I’m really into the Love and Basketball soundtrack.
Favorite movie or TV show: Moonlight
Favorite drag queen: That’s a tough one. Probably Ragamuffin, but I love them all!
My drag name would be: Bye
Favorite gogo boy: I don’t know any of their names – they all look good, but the same.
Favorite DJ: an epic tie between Erica Kenia and Larry Sparkman. Also obsessed with Frankie Sharp, but who isn’t?
Other stuff you need to know about me: I host a monthly queer storytelling show called Trips, also at Metro, the last Tuesday of every month.
[Editor’s Note: Katie will also be hosting “Ova The Rainbow: Let Them Eat Cake” at Spectrum / The Dreamhouse on Saturday, October 7th!]
