Bar Babe of the Week: Franco at the Cock

Sexy BeefyBingoBro Franco has got you at the Cock!

Bar that I work at: the latest edition of the Cock, located at 93 2nd Ave (E 6th and 2nd Ave) in the East Village!  Occasionally you can also find me slinging drinks and stocking at Easternbloc, also in EV (E 6th and Ave A).

How long I’ve worked there: My first shift at the Cock was on the eve of my 25th birthday last September, so eight months.

What are my shifts: Happy hour Thursday – Saturday. Bar opens at 6pm 2-4-1 Happy hour until 10 and I’m done at 11PM.

Thursday is my favorite shift where I throw BINGO-A-GOGO! It’s a cute evening of low commitment bingo fun with a rotating go-go boy host. We’ve had one boy recite foot fetish poetry, “biggest dick soft” as tie breakers, and fun sexy prizes… like certified pre-owned poppers, anyone!? The boys are just as cute and sexy, as they are at night trying to navigate calling bingo numbers. It’s as hot and ridiculous as it sounds.

Lastly, a few Saturdays a month I pull double duty working from open to close. My signature meals slow down, and I’m usually in less clothes.

What makes this bar great: When I’m behind the bar, you could probably count how many times I describe the Cock either: “It is whatever you make it,” and “It’s a Choose Your Own Adventure.” The Cock has its own living legend and lore behind it; you could walk in any day or time, and find whatever you are looking for,:conversation, cruising, and general shenanigans… though I do challenge people to GET OFF YOUR PHONES and talk to other patrons.

During happy hour, I have a lot of regulars who can tell you of the “old days” of the East Village–the sleaze, the slime, and the splooge–in every bar that used to exist down here. Now there isn’t much left, and the Cock is still one of those places where you can have your cake and eat it too.

It’s not all cruising and Cock, now that NYC has changed. I work the bulk of our happy hours, and it’s a great place to come meet for a wicked drink special, (2-4-1 till 10pm) where you can relax have a few drinks and head out before we change over to the Cock that everyone knows (but stay!).

Best drink I make: I pour a mean tequila shot. I also make a personal twist on a mai tai that is a something I offer for the adventurous, sweet preferring patron. I’m still taking names on it, but everyone has suggested fairly filthy ones so…still at the drawing board there.

I love it when customers: 1) Tip well and often.  2) Talk with me and each other.  3) Bring me food.  4) Don’t negotiate an already cheap deal of a happy hour

I hate it when customers: 1) Don’t tip. I pride myself on my good service, so reward me. I have a regular happy hour following for a reason.  2) Walk in at 6:01 and ask where everyone is! We just opened, stay have a drink, folks will come.  3) When Non-Customers try to sneak in and use the bathroom. It’s a polarizing opinion, but I work in the East Village; it’s mostly drunk bros and sorority girls who come in cause they think we aren’t busy, then complain about the bar. Bitch all you want about the bathroom, but first you gotta buy something.  4) Try to get one over about the 2-4-1 drinks. You each need to buy a round, don’t ask me to make the exception. I rarely do, and typically for people who have sat for more than one full round for each.

Craziest thing I’ve seen here: It’s honestly never a dull day. It’s usually people who don’t understand that its 7pm and we have a giant window try to behave like it’s Cock After Dark. I once worked a night shift where a guy made a makeshift shirt because he couldn’t find his own.

OH WAIT! A toilet freaking exploded in April. I have no idea how, but it was in shambles. You should come see what happens.

Other places I’ve worked: I used to work at the great This-N-That bar in Williamsburg!

My hometown: South Jersey, and came of age in Philadelphia.

Stuff I do when I’m not bartending: I eat a lot of food. I love to cook. I play a lot of PlayStation. The weather is getting nicer, so I’ll be around biking on my chrome bike across the city. If I’m going out on the town, I like to get over to see my friend’s gigs across the city.

Single or Taken: Single, queer, and per usual complicated.

Who/what turns me on: I’m queer so I like A LOT. Boys, girls, girly boys, boyish girls, and everything in between. I like curly hair and nice butts, so it’s a great start if you have those. I also like big sacks on the body, balls or boobs.

Favorite music: All over the map! Rock, rap, country, dance, and more. The music I bartend to is referred to as “Queer as Folk soundtrack,” so I do love me some Ms. Cox, Whitney, and the great dance remixes of some of their hits.

Favorite movie or TV show: The Original Trilogy of Star Wars and the Food Network

Favorite drag queen: Everyone in my life will laugh at this question. If you’ve come through This-N-That bar, chances are you’re on my ❤ ❤ ❤  list. I’ve got some soft spots for Lilith LeFae (Miss Boots & Saddle), Ragamuffin, Kareem McJagger, Misty, Honey Davenport, and honestly this list could go on…like forever.

My drag name would be: Te’quila Monroe Jenkins.

Favorite gogo boy: Rify Royalty was the first gogo boy I saw in NYC! So always there. I love me some Alex Armstrong too: the first Bingo-a-Gogo boy! He’s got the face of the freshman football player who really, really, really wants to make the team. Marcus Emel is also a regular gogo boy at Bingo-a-Gogo who has probably one of the sexiest voices I have ever heard.

Favorite DJ: Too MANY!  But to name a few: The Carry Nation (Nita Aviance and Will Automagic), William Francis, Ernie Cote, and the ever sexy Nashom! Nashom spins on Sundays, and Ernie is on Fridays at the Cock.

Other stuff you need to know about me:  I’m a very vocal, sexual, queer trans man of colour. I’m very happy to be a part of such a diverse staff at the Cock. As far as I know, I’m the first trans guy to work behind the bar there, and I hope to be part of that family for a long time. But don’t confuse my openness as an encyclopedia! I’ll chat about being queer and trans on my terms, respects, and boundaries.  If you can’t respect that, use Google!
