A longtime favorite of a recently shuttered iconic Chelsea venue, Joshua keeps the good spirits flowing in HK.
Bar(s) that I work at: Industry Bar
How long I’ve worked there: I’ve been at Industry Bar since March 25, 2025. However, I’ve been with the company since the Spring of 2007 (at Barracuda Lounge), so that’s about 18 1/2 years at this point in time.
What are my shifts: I work Monday through Friday Happy Hours shifts from 5-10, with 2-4 -1 until 9pm.
What makes this bar great: The staff is super friendly — no really! They were super friendly and helpful when I first started, helping me learn the ropes of the bar. There are drag shows almost every night of the week, as well as events and parties.
Best drink I make: I come from a divy bar, so I’m use to vodka sodas and whisky gingers… but I do get compliments on my Manhattans and cosmos.
I love it when customers: Start engaging other customers / regulars, sharing their stories!
I hate it when customers: Don’t have their form of payment ready. It really helps to streamline the whole process when the cash/card is already out and ready to go.
Craziest thing I’ve seen here: We hosted the after party for FlameCon (It’s a queer comic con). There were so many people in costumes and a ton of performers putting on such a great show. There was so much queer creativity in a great space.
Other places I’ve worked: I worked at Barracuda Lounge for 18 years up until the closing in March of 2025. It was a devastating loss to myself and the community, and I miss her much.
My hometown: Tucson, AZ. Don’t go. It’s awful in the summer. Only go October through March if you have to go.
Stuff I do when I’m not bartending: Introverting as hard as I can/ I’m more of an ambivert, so I enjoy the people when I’m at work but then I need to turn off. A quiet night at home is the best.
Single or Taken: I’m happily single for about 15 years now.
Who/what turns me on: I’m into who I’m into when I’m into them. I love otters to bears, 20 somethings to Daddies. Being kind, honest, and confident go a long way.
Favorite music: My music taste is pretty vast from disco to the music from the late 1900’s to the Top 40. P!NK is my DIVA!
Favorite movie or TV show: Doctor Who and The Labrynth with David Bowie. Hands down my favorites. Give me fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and comedy mixed with time and space travel with mythical creatures.
Favorite drag queen: Sherry Vine and Peppermint are my favorites.
Favorite gogo boy: Sadly, I haven’t seen a gogo boy since the No Parking days.
Favorite DJ: Catrina Lovelace . I worked with her the most the last couple months at Barracuda, and she did a great job on the closing night. I know I’m going to have good music to work to when she’s there.
Other stuff you need to know about me: I’ve been sober since February 16, 2012. My regulars and coworkers helped and continue to do so, I really could not have done it without them.
