Stonewall fans know that Fredd aka “Tree” Sequoia is much more than a very tall and beloved veteran staffer, and Imperial Court of New York royal; he was there on the day of the 1969 Riots! And his legacy only continues…
Bar(s) that I work at: The Stonewall Inn
Best drink I make: Bourbon Old Fashion
I love it when customers: Ask you “do they call you Tree?”
I hate it when customers: who are nice people get drunk and act stupid
Other places I’ve worked: I worked at a restaurant called Mama’s Chic and Rib (a gay hangout). Then I was a bouncer and later became bartender at the Ninth Circle from late ’67 till 1990. Went to Julius’ from 1990 to 1996. Tried to retire, but when New Jimmy’s became Stonewall, I went back. When the people that owned it ran it into the ground by not paying bills, they lost it. The Duplex took it over and it went back under the original name Stonewall Inn.
Craziest thing I’ve seen: At Ninth Circle the police arrested a customer who was on the phone, threatening the president.
My hometown: Brooklyn, but in my apartment in Chelsea 57 years
Stuff I do when I’m not bartending: I travel the USA and the world talking about the 1969 riots
Single or Taken: Single. And loving it
Favorite music: Love all music except Hip Hop and Rap
Favorite movie or TV show: Crazy Rich Asians and Casablanca; TV–many
Favorite drag queen: You’re going to get me killed
My drag name would be: Final Clearance
Favorite gogo boy: Again, you’re getting me in trouble!
Favorite DJs: Chauncey, Twisted Dee and Chuck on Fire island
Other stuff you need to know about me: I’m a 1969 Stonewall Veteran. I have many friends around the world.
Follow me on: Instagram and Facebook
Tip me: with a penis picture (yours)
