It’s been another banner year of kiki in NYC nightlife, despite (or maybe because of) the country’s troubles. New venues opened (expect Bedlam and Casa to be featured on next year’s list!), and some old venues have fallen out of favor for the moment. Legendary performers Shantayed away, and others came back from the dead to snatch up all the pageant crowns. Some stars shined brighter this year then ever before, and as always there were tons of inspiring new performers.
It can’t be said enough: there are thousands of people who make things happen in nightlife, and they all deserve praise and recognition. This year’s list of 300 (up from 250 last year, and at 300 it will remain) is solely from the perspective of this blog – people, places and things we’ve seen be amazing with our own eyes, or heard about through others, or charted through social media. But it’s still just one blog’s POV. We couldn’t include all the people we wanted, and we’ll have to live with that. But no feelings should be hurt here… this is just a fucking Tumblr, after all.
